One evening not long before Jesus was betrayed, he had a meal with his disciples. As he reclined at the table, a woman came in with a flask of expensive ointment and poured the entire jar on his head. This was Mary. She was one of Jesus’ friends. He had welcomed her to sit at his feet, as a disciple, and he had raised her brother Lazarus from the dead. Now, as Mary poured the ointment onto Jesus, some of his disciples were offended. They called it a waste.
But Jesus praised her. He said: “she has done a beautiful thing to me.”
This is a beautiful story. It’s a story of a woman bringing her gift to Jesus. This is our vision for Exodus Women: for women who love Jesus to bring him their gifts. This is a beautiful thing.
Exodus Women exists to discover, develop, and deploy the gifts of women for the mission of Jesus through Exodus Church.
We believe that when women come to know Jesus, they will have gifts to bring. We believe that more women have gifts to bring. The church needs these gifts. We believe that women’s ministry is not just ministry to women in the church, but it is ministry by women for the church.
When Mary broke open the jar of perfume, the entire house was filled with its fragrance. Her gift testified to the beauty of Jesus to everyone around the table. And as women at Exodus respond to Jesus by bringing their gifts, Jesus will be honored and the entire church will be served.
