Advent Resources

by | Nov 29, 2012 | News

One of the things we love to do at Christmas is to read parts of the Christmas Story leading up to Christmas Eve.  This helps us focus our hearts on Jesus during a time of year that could draw us away so easily.

  • To those who are single:  Pursue Jesus now in His Word.  Gather with friends to remember Jesus’ Advent.
  • To those who are married without kids:  Start traditions now that point you to Jesus.
  • To those with kids:  This time doesn’t have to be hard or complicated.  But, we do try to make it a special time for our family.  Our kids will remember that we did it not as much what we did.

Here are a few resources that might be helpful.

Jesus Story Book Bible Advent Reading Plan – This is what we will use as a family this year.  We printed out the pdf and put a slip of paper in each day of our advent calendar.  When we move the star, we’ll read the passage from the Jesus Story Book Bible.  Our kids are really excited (so are we).  There are also some great resources on this website for advent activities.

Desiring God – This Advent Reading Guide is taken from John Piper’s sermons over the last 30+ years of ministry at Bethlehem.  It has a reading for every day.  More for adults.  Perfect for singles or married couples.

The Village Church – This Advent Reading Guide has a reading each week.  This might be a good place to start if you think everyday is too much to accomplish this year.

Nativity Advent Guide – I wrote this several years ago.  This includes a reading each week using the Nativity as a guide.  It has readings, songs to sing and a craft.  I hope it’s helpful.

Again, the issue is we want to draw near to Jesus during this time.  Don’t miss Him while you are busy celebrating a Season that is about Him.
