The following resources will help you see work as a calling and an opportunity for the gospel to shape every area of your life.
Theology of Work – Bob Thune – a four part blog post on work. My favorite quote:
So redemption in Christ must transform our view of work. No longer is work a necessary evil. It is now a calling. Work now has great spiritual significance, because it is a chance for God to be glorified.
Men at Work – A Sermon by JR Vassar (the other two are excellent as well)
Why Work – Dorothy Sayers – an essay about rethinking work – I love this essay. This is perhaps my favorite quote from it:
The Church’s approach to an intelligent carpenter is usually confined to exhorting him not to be drunk and disorderly in his leisure hours, and to come to church on Sundays. What the Church should be telling him is this: that the very first demand that his religion makes upon him is that he should make good tables.
TED Talk about Work – This talk gives us some good understanding of how people view work and the importance of our work having meaning. The section on IKEA and Duncan Hines was really interesting.
Hope they are helpful.
