Even when the evidence of God’s faithfulness is clear, we so easily become impatient and want to control our own lives–to do our own thing in our own way on our own timetable. What foolishness is that! God always know what’s best, and always does what’s best. May we rest in Him for all we need. May He be the only one we worship!

You are God, my God, and forever you will be praised! You alone dwell in unapproachable light, and even the dark is light to you! Open my eyes, my ears, my mind, and my heart. Show me where I have foolishly trusted in what the hands of men have fashioned. Shed your light in my heart and reveal where I still cling to the lie that something else besides your love will satisfy me. Reveal where I have trusted in something other than Jesus to save me.

Help me be still before you and listen today. I confess, even if it does not seem true to me now, that you alone can save and satisfy me. I desire to put off my old, ignorant, darkened man. Renew my mind and make me like Jesus, who trusted you to the bitter end. I long to cast off the weight of cares and the snares of sin and run the race you have set before me! May your name be exalted, both now and forevermore!

“Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart…But that is not the way you learned Christ!–assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:17-18, 20-24).
