Prayers for Exodus: Hope in God’s Power

In the second of our series on Exodus, we see God calling Moses to a life of trust in His power. Despite his objections, God expected Moses to obey the call, because, after all, “I AM” was the power behind the call. So with us, when God calls us to a task, He gives us all we need to accomplish it. We need to hope in His power; the all-sufficient one is sufficient for us today as well.

Dear Heavenly Father, you are the great God, the self-existent One. How can my small and finite mind know the infinite and unending Creator? How can you make yourself knowable to me, even in the filth and sin of my life? You call to me with love and graciousness. I do not know enough to save myself. My accomplishments are nothing compared to the vastness of all that you have ordained.

Remind me to look to you for identity. Remind me to call out to you first. Remind me to listen to your gentle and refreshing word. Remind me to trust in no other name but Jesus, for your name is forever. Your wisdom is unending. Your strength is unrelenting. Your word is eternal.

Your will for me is perfect for my imperfect soul. Take my questions and give me your all-knowing answers. Give me what I need for the mission, but not what I want, lest I begin to trust in myself instead of you. You can see clearly the path that you have laid out for me. Give me the faith to follow you on that path.

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”…This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.
