There have been few quotes outside the Bible that have gripped me like this one from Abraham Kuyper:
There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: ‘Mine!’
Pause for a moment to ponder the whole domain of our human existence: species of animals that have never been discovered by man, the vastness of our universe that constantly displays the glory of God. Consider the places in our own planet that man has not explored…caves, the ocean floor, parts of the polar regions…all of those places belong to Jesus. The Christ…who alone is sovereign… has made his declaration, “Mine.”
But, Christ’s declaration doesn’t simply ring over the physical world of trees and mountains and caves. Christ declares his Lordship over every inch of our lives as well. He’s Lord over our prayers, our jobs, our homes, our relationships. He has declared, “Mine,” over the Church, our redemption, our walking and talking. Over everything, He has declared, “Mine.”
Paul’s letter to the Church we know as Colossians bears the same theme: that everything in all of existence belongs to Jesus. Paul writes,
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him.
Everything was created through him and for him…Every Inch of Everything belongs to the Lord Jesus. Our hope as we explore this reality is that we would embrace that Everything was created by and for Him…including us.
Join us as we explore Colossians. Prepare for Jesus to invade every inch of your life…it’s His.
